Nicaragua – Las Naranjas

as Naranjas is an 8-hectare farm owned by sisters Martha and Ana Albir, third-generation coffee producers whose family has grown coffee in Nueva Segovia since 1930. Together they run Cafetos de Segovia, a dry mill in Ocotal that makes it easy for local farmers to deliver and process their harvest the same day. Established in 2015, the mill has become a hub for quality-focused producers, now working with 47 farms in the region.

The Albir family’s history is deeply tied to the land — during the Nicaraguan revolution they were forced to emigrate, losing much of their farmland, but later returned to rebuild. Today, their mill and greenhouse (built in 2020) process both their own coffees and experimental lots from partner farmers. At peak harvest, up to 300 quintales (≈46kg each) are processed daily, with a drying capacity of 3,000 quintales. Most lots are washed, with careful shade and sun drying to preserve quality at lower altitudes.

Cafetos de Segovia is recognised nationally, regularly submitting award-winning coffees to the Cup of Excellence.
